The Role
Geofirma has an opportunity for a Junior Hydrogeologist to join our team, based remotely in Northern Ontario (e.g. North Bay). While reporting to senior management within Geofirma, this position will support a variety of geoscience and hydrogeological projects and contribute to the growth of the company’s mining business stream in Northern Ontario. In this position, your role will include:
- Implement geoscience field programs including borehole drilling, core-logging, hydraulic testing, stream flow gauging, installation of monitoring wells, soil, surface and groundwater sampling.
- Work as part of an interdisciplinary field and office project team to achieve environmental and hydrogeological project objectives, particularly in the context of mining and energy projects.
- Recognize and identify potential hazards and work under strict occupational health and safety protocols.
- Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams, including engineers, geologists, and environmental scientists, to develop integrated and innovative solutions to complex hydrogeological challenges.
- Assist with the preparation of technical reports and presentations for clients, regulatory agencies, and other stakeholders.
- Working under and following Geofirma’s high quality and safety standards (ISO certification, Corporate HSEP policy)
Key Responsibilities
A good fit for this position will include:
- University graduate with a degree in environmental geoscience
- A valid Ontario Driver’s license and a willingness to travel within Ontario (as needed) and undertake field work is essential
- Registration as an Engineer-in-Training (EIT) or Geoscientist-in-Training (GIT) with the ability to obtain a P.Eng or P.Geo registration
- 2 to 5 years of relevant working experience in geoscience field
- A sound base in the application of hydrogeological principals
- Strong communication skills (written and verbal) with ability to work well in a team environment;
- While not mandatory, the following are considered assets:
- Master’s degree in hydrogeology
- Experience with subsurface (water, rock, soil) field testing
- Mining experience
- Enjoys the outdoors (hiking, canoeing)
- Experience with snowmobiles, boats, trailering, and all-terrain vehicles
- Valid First Aid training
The successful candidate will be offered a permanent position, with the opportunity to assume increasing autonomy, responsibility and equity participation in Geofirma Engineering Ltd. Annual salary will be in accordance with PEO/APGO salary scales, between $60,000 and $70,000 depending on experience. Company benefits include medical/dental and Group RRSP.
