Simon Foster is a registered Professional Geoscientist in Ontario with 16 years of experience relating to hydrogeological, environmental, and geophysical investigations and assessments. His areas of experience include numerical groundwater modelling, aquifer testing, water quality assessments, drilling investigations, and geophysical surveying. Simon’s multidisciplinary experience has been applied to environmental and mining projects throughout Canada and internationally.

Over the past eight years, Simon has been the lead hydrogeologist for mining projects located throughout Northern Ontario, Mexico, and West Africa, characterizing groundwater conditions to support water supply studies and assessing groundwater inflow for open pit and underground mine excavations. This work has supported a variety of engineering studies, impact assessments, and site wide water balances.

Recently, Simon has managed several Hydrogeological Studies for Permits to Take Water applications for mining projects in Northern Ontario. The studies have involved compiling baseline data, the completion of detailed hydrogeological site investigations (bedrock logging, hydraulic testing, and instrumentation installation), and the development of numerical groundwater models to estimate the dewatering requirements of the mine and to evaluate the mine’s potential impact on water wells and surface water features in the vicinity of the mine.
