Nicholas Sgro is a registered Professional Engineer in Ontario with over a decade of experience at Geofirma Engineering. In his role as a Computational Modeller, he has focused on modelling complex hydrogeologic and hydrologic systems.

Nicholas studied Civil Engineering at the University of Ottawa and continued with graduate studies at the University of Waterloo. His research involved hypothesis testing of changes in hydrologic models, where he applied rigorous statistical analysis techniques, including uncertainty estimation, regression, and sensitivity analysis.

Throughout his career, Nicholas has been involved in modelling a diverse array of projects, including radioactive waste disposal, natural gas reservoirs, environmental assessments, mine feasibility studies, and carbon sequestration. Through these projects, Nicholas has developed a talent for modelling groundwater flow, contaminant transport, multiphase flow, and hydromechanics. His expertise extends to surface water hydrologic modelling, with projects ranging from watershed-scale inflow forecasting models to site-scale water balance models.

In addition to numerical modelling, Nicholas is proficient in developing code across various programming languages for high-performance computing and data visualization. He has contributed to the development of Geofirma’s software, including mView, paCalc, nSights, and T3GGM.
