CONTRACT Geoscientist / Geologist (G.I.T.)

Location: Remote work near Thunder Bay / Dryden

The Role

We are seeking a motivated Contract Geologist / Geoscientist to support an upcoming shallow borehole drilling program in Northwestern Ontario. The successful candidate will be responsible for logging drill cuttings (chip samples), core logging, supervising drilling contractor, and overseeing the installation of groundwater monitoring wells. This is a 4 to 6 month contract position ideal for a geologist with field experience in drilling operations and strong attention to detail and quality. In this position, your role will include:

 

  • Log drill chip samples (or rock core) from shallow boreholes in a consistent and systematic manner
  • Maintain detailed geological logs and sample records
  • Coordinate with drilling contractors and field technicians to ensure smooth sampling and handling procedures
  • Assist with QA/QC procedures and maintain data integrity (ensure proper sample labeling, storage, and shipment)
  • Contribute to daily drilling reports and progress updates
  • Recognize and identify potential hazards and work under strict occupational health and safety protocols.
  • Working under and following Geofirma’s high quality and safety standards (ISO certification, corporate HSEP policy)

Key Responsibilities

A good fit for this position will include:

 

  • BSc in Geology, Earth Sciences, or related field
  • A valid Ontario Driver’s license
  • 2 to 5 years of relevant working experience in geoscience field / with drilling programs
  • Experience logging chip samples and drill core (specifically crystalline bedrock)
  • Familiarity with drilling rigs and/or water well installation
  • Strong organizational and data recording skills
  • Ability to work both in a team environment and independently in a field environment
  • While not mandatory, the following are considered assets:
    • Experience with installation of monitoring wells
    • Experience collecting groundwater samples and hydraulic testing
    • Valid First Aid, safety training, or site certifications
