This person will also have the opportunity to be the lead on an ongoing program: a large, multi-phase carbon sequestration project that is the first of its kind in Ontario.
The ideal candidate excels at managing client relationships, at project planning and preparation, and at coordinating resources effectively to meet client expectations and project specifications. The Senior Hydrogeologist / Project Manager works seamlessly as a collaborative partner with clients as well as with colleagues to deliver projects on-time and on-budget while mitigating associated risks.
This is a phenomenal opportunity to be a key player in an organization dedicated to solving complex engineering and science commissions (some of which are the biggest challenges facing the world today).
Key Responsibilities
- Work as part of an interdisciplinary field and office project team to achieve environmental and hydrogeological project objectives, particularly in the context of underground storage (CCS, natural gas, nuclear waste), mining, industrial, commercial, and residential sites.
- Plan, oversee and/or implement complete or portions of large geoscience field programs including borehole drilling, core-logging, hydraulic testing, depth-discrete groundwater sampling, laboratory sampling of core, installation of monitoring wells and groundwater measurement equipment, and/or soil, surface and groundwater sampling.
- Recognize and identify potential hazards and work under strict occupational health and safety protocols.
- Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams, including engineers, geologists, and environmental scientists, to develop integrated and innovative solutions to complex hydrogeological challenges.
- Prepare technical reports and presentations for clients, regulatory agencies, and other stakeholders.
- Stay informed of emerging trends and technologies in geoscience and your area of expertise and apply them to project work.
- Manage project budgets, schedules, and deliverables to ensure timely and cost-effective completion of project work.
- Preparing detailed work scopes and cost estimates for proposed geoscience investigations.
- Working under and following Geofirma’s high quality and safety standards (ISO certification, Corporate HSEP policy).
- Contribute to Geofirma’s team environment by mentoring junior staff and sharing knowledge with others to contribute to everyone’s professional development.
- Represent Geofirma Engineering to the highest standards to all clients and related professionals.

- Provide lead site supervision role during deep bedrock drilling and testing programs (i.e. oil and gas, CCS style projects), with a willingness to be available on call during intensive drilling activities.
- Evaluating, interpreting and integrating a variety of datasets including geology, borehole geophysical data, hydraulic testing, groundwater / rock porewater chemistry and pressure data, into a cohesive conceptual model of a field site.
Key Experiences
- Progressive leadership experience in engineering and environmental consulting, with a special focus on geology, hydrogeology, geological or environmental engineering, or a related discipline.
- Post-graduate degree (M.Sc. or Ph.D.) in hydrogeology or in a related discipline.
- A valid license to practice engineering (P.Eng) or geoscience (P.Geo) in the province of Ontario.
- A history of running jobs in the field and of conducting field work across the province of Ontario (some travel required for this role).
- Experience in petroleum engineering well design and construction and experience with subsurface (water, rock, soil) field testing equipment are considered assets.
- A track record of success in the management of complex hydrogeological and environmental projects and project teams, with an impressive history of strong client relationships.
- An excellent understanding of environmental regulations and permitting processes related to geoscience projects.
- A history as an exceptional communicator, with both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
- A strong level of comfort and proficiency in terms of software and related technical skills.
